The opinion of the sommelier

« This month I would like you to discover the Domaine de la Charmoise. Its wines are outstanding in terms of price quality ratio. The Marionnets, the owners of this winery, are passionate about their work and this is shown in what they produce! Carbonic maceration of grapes created nice aromas that will surprise you. »

Terroir

Thanks to its location in the east end of the Touraine, this winery benefits from a continental climate, favourable to sauvignon and gamay. Spring frosts are quite rare and temperatures help these two grape varieties to come to maturity before the harvest. Grapevines grow on “perruches” (flinty clay and gravels) soil. It is a dense and compact soil that produces wine for laying down.

lecepage Grape variety

Gamay is a red grape variety with white juice and very productive. In wintertime, winemakers cut the branches holding grapes very short. Each hectare has a big density of vine trunks and roots. These two characteristics of gamay facilitate the production of red, fruity, fresh and savoury wines.

lemillesime Vintage

Winter was mild and too dry. However, April brought more that 120mm of rain to vineyards, along with nice temperatures at the start of the vegetative cycle. Summer was more stable and allowed a good ripening of grapes. In 2009 red wines were suppler, more savoury and fonder than in 2010 or 2011.

lerecoltant Winemaker

The Marionnet family arrived at Soings, in the east part of Touraine, 30 km to the south of Blois, during the 50s’. What’s the peculiarity of this winery? The Marionnets own the oldest grapevine of France, dated around 1850, before the phylloxéra crisis.
