Terres Blanches 2014 - Domaine Chiroulet, Côtes de Gascogne

The opinion of the sommelier

I found this blend of gros manseng and sauvignon very well done. This is an interesting balance between the opulent texture of gros manseng and the freshness of sauvignon. This harmonious wine will be perfect for the warm afternoons of spring paired with barbecued sardines... Summer is just around the corner!

Terroir

The Domaine Chiroulet is located on the highest hills of Gascogne and therefore benefits from a southern exposure and strong winds that ensure grapes’ healthiness. The name “Les Terres Blanches” means “The White Soils” in French and refers to the limestone the vines are planted on.

lecepage Grape variety

This blend is typical of Gascogne and mixes on the one hand the creamy texture of gros manseng and on the other hand the fresh aromas of citrus fruits given by sauvignon, especially grapefruit and lime. The ugni blanc, provided by 50-year-old vines, complete this blend with refinement.

lemillesime Vintage

Once again, Gascogne benefited in 2014 from its Gascon summer (the local Indian summer), a dry and sunny time between the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. This nice weather gave to the grapes a very high level of maturity that delighted the winemakers. This vintage’s characteristics are fruity aromas and an enchanting texture.

lerecoltant A winemaker, a family

The Fezas family has been in charge of the estate for more than 150 years. Six generations succeeded one to another sharing the same goal of enhancing the wines from this marvellous terroir of Gascogne. The name of the vineyard, Chiroulet, comes from “chiroula”, a specific wind that blows in the area almost all the time. This wind is a really good thing as it keeps the grapes fresh and healthy!
