Berry Good 2015, Domaine Nairaud Suberville, Châteaumeillant

    Sommelier

    The opinion of the sommelier

This month, I have the pleasure to share with you one of my recently found jewel, which comes from one of the smallest appellation that gathers only 10 winemakers : Châteaumeillant. The wines from this terroir are appreciated for their gourmet nose of cherry, plum and pepper. On the palate, the aromas are fresh and reveals a very beautiful structure with crisp that I enjoy deeply.

    Feuille

    Grape variety

Berry Good is mainly composed of gamay. Originally from Burgundy, it is the first grape variety of the Chateaumeillant appel-lation. It brings freshness and finesse to the cuvée with aromas of red fruits and spices (pepper). Blended with pinot noir, the wine shows a greater finesse and have a nice balance.

     Anecdote

    A winemaker, a family

The story of the Nairaud Suberville vineyard began in 2011, one year after Châteaumeillant officially became an appellation. This was an amazing year for Daniel Nairaud. Former deputy director of the National Institute of Appellations of Origin (INAO), he left at 49 years his job to start an adventure and become a winemaker. His years at INAO gave him all the theoretical foundations of wine production, and today he makes his own wine for our greatest pleasure ! /p>

     Terroir

    Terroir

The vines of Nairaud Suberville are grown on a sandy-clay soil. This terroir is typical of the appellation and it is also ideal for the gamay variety. Granitic and not very deep, the soil brings a good drainage to the vine and produces a wine with structure and body.

  2. Trio Tempo, Malbec 2015, Osmin, Comté Tolosan

Trio Tempo, Malbec 2015, Osmin, Comté Tolosan

    Sommelier

    The opinion of the sommelier

This artist wine is a unique blend of three different Malbec plots located on three distinct terroirs. This wine is an alternative version of this magnificent Southwestern grape variety that is Malbec, known for its marked tannic structure and intensity but here more fruity than elsewhere.

    Feuille

    Grape variety

Malbec, or "cot" in the Loire Valley, is the pride of the area! It flourishes on clay and limestone or clay and gravel soils. Its black, ripe berries (covered with a thin film) have a fleshy pulp and bring to the wine beautiful tannins, power, structure and a superb palette of aromas with spicy notes and ripe fruits.

     Anecdote

    A winemaker, a family

Lionel Osmin and Damiens Sartori are two friends in love with the South-West : they founded their winery to share their passion by modernizing the image of wines from the South-West thanks to an irreproachable selection of plots and modern winemaking techniques. They offer an original and personal interpretation of those appellations, by using both local grape varieties, and famous grape varieties from elsewhere. /p>

     Terroir

    Terroir

The selected plots are located on the terraces bordering the Lot River and the Causses du Quercy, typical small hills from this area. The Causses have a limestone-rich and shallow soil, while the terroir along the Lot River is composed of clay, layers of sediment and shells that gives the vine the minerals, moisture and freshness necessary for its good development.

  3. Mas d'Anglade 2015, Languedoc-Montpeyroux

    Mas d'Anglade 2015, Languedoc-Montpeyroux

    Sommelier

    The opinion of the sommelier

Montpeyroux is a rising appellation in Languedoc ! I really like the minerality and the generosity of its wines. The nose of Mas d'Anglade is extremely seductive thanks to its aromas of blackberry, cherry and spices. The cuvee reveals on the palate a salinity carried by great tannins which are express on a persistent and suave finish.

    Feuille

    Grape variety

Out of the three grape varieties that make up this wine, carignan is certainly the least known. However, it often completes the blend of great southern wines, especially when it’s from old vines. Carignan wines are appreciated for their power, their generosity and the elegance of their tannic structure.

Mule track, salt road, transhumance route ... the remains that strew the area of Languedoc-Montpeyroux AOC attest to the intense life that still represents the village of Montpeyroux. Les Rocailles 2015, Domaine Pierre Finon, Saint-Joseph

    Sommelier

    The opinion of the sommelier

Les Rocailles, by the very talented winemaker Pierre Finon, does honour the great appellation of Saint-Joseph. A powerful wine that expresses delicious aromas of blueberry and black pepper, and refreshed by notes of violet specific to syrah. On the palate, a beautiful finish with tannins that shows us a strong wine with a great ageing potential.

    Feuille

Syrah is the emblematic black grape of the northern part of the Rhone Valley and the only black grape of the Saint-Joseph appellation. 5. Louis Soufflot 2015, AOP Mercurey

    Louis Soufflot 2015, AOP Mercurey

    Sommelier

    The opinion of the sommelier

The south of Burgundy has long been underestimated because no Grands Crus were located there. The truth is that some amazing terroirs lie there and the little bonus of sun they get around Chalon gives a quite persistent version of pinot noir. Mercurey is doubtlessly one of the best appellation in this area !

    Feuille

    Grape variety

Pinot Noir is an old-timer. Experts agree that it was already present in the first century of our era. Indeed, this grape variety would have seen the Gallics fighting against the Romans and would have even witnessed the birth of the Burgundy vineyard. That’s how it became throughout the centuries the main and then the only black variety in Burgundy.

     Anecdote

    A winemaker, a family

The story of Primavinae began in 1951 here in Burgundy and quickly grew : now the respected winemaking company own vineyards in almost all the villages of the region, which is quite uncommon. Moreover, their vines are usually located on the best terroirs, as it is the case for Louis Soufflot’s vines throughout the villages of southern Burgundy./p>

The vineyard of Mercurey enjoys a very special terroir because it lays on a rugged relief punctuated by small hills alternating gentle and severe slopes. This type of relief gives grapes that have benefited from various sun exposures. Le Prince, Vieilles Vignes 2012, Domaine de Rocheville, Saumur Champigny

    Sommelier

    The opinion of the sommelier

I have the pleasure to share with you Le Prince, Old Vines. Finding a Saumur Champigny of this quality with attractive prices became quite a hard task because of several small harvests. The vineyard of Rocheville is increasingly known for its quality wines and its magnificent estate (we invite you to go there, I was received as if I was a Prince ...).

    Feuille

    Grape variety

Cabernet franc is the only variety allowed in the appellation. It is sensitive to heat and dehydrates quickly but thanks to the local clay-limestone soils, the grapes have a regular supply of water which allows the good development. Nessun Dorma 2014, Domaine Maby, Lirac

    Sommelier

    The opinion of the sommelier

Richard Maby is a talented winemaker renowned for his white and red wines from Lirac and his rosés of Tavel. I really like his author's wines and Nessun Dorma is a real jewel! The opinion of the sommelier

Château de Chambert 2012, Rigal, Cahors

    Sommelier

    The opinion of the sommelier

Château de Chambert is one of those famous estates that has a strong positive impact on the reputation of their appellation. One of the reasons why it’s famous is because the soil never got a drop of chemical. It has been given up for a few decades and then immediately grown in biodynamics. The 2012 vintage has improved with age : the wine is powerful and velvety in the mouth with a very beautiful dense and fleshy structure.

Gamay 2016, Jean Marc Biet, AOC Touraine

    Sommelier

    The opinion of the sommelier

An artist wine by the well-known and well gifted Jean-Marc Biet ! The nose is subtle, displays delicate flowers aromas and opens to small red berries flavours. In the mouth, a salty taste gives soul to the wine. This is a superb Loire Valley wine, fresh and elegant, of great finesse, charming and easy to drink in all circumstances. A single bottle might not be enough.

    Feuille

    Grape variety

This wine was elaborated with gamay, a variety that comes from Beaujolais, in southern Burgundy, where it is still the main variety grown. Gamay is amazing, it offers a nice olfactory intensity with notes of red fruits which can be surprising considered that the flesh of this grape is white !

  13. Château Patache d'Aux 2012, Antoine Moueix Propriétés, Médoc, Cru Bourgeois

Château Patache d'Aux 2012, Antoine Moueix Propriétés, Médoc, Cru Bourgeois

    Sommelier

    The opinion of the sommelier

Patache d'Aux is a classic Medoc that goes through the years with a unique and constant style that regularly earns the distinction of Cru Bourgeois. The garnet robe with thick tears offers smoky, tobacco and roasting aromas, then leather notes gives way to plum and blackcurrant. In the mouth, the tannins are melted and the wine is persistent. One of my must-haves !

    Feuille

    Grape variety

On the left bank, in Medoc, cabernet sauvignon is the king grape. This noble grape variety provides the structure of the Medoc. To complete this grape, merlot is indispensable and brings flexibility and complexity to the cuvée. In smaller quantities we can find the petit verdot, for its structure, and the cabernet franc for its roundness.

Château Patache d’Aux is an old estate which belonged since the Revolution to the Delon family. In 1932, the wines made it to the Cru Bourgeois ranking and 30 years later, the Chateau was taken over by the Lapalu family.      Anecdote

    A winemaker, a family

The story of Mas la Chevalière began in the 80s when Michel Laroche, winemaker in Chablis in Burgundy, discovered the great potential of the terroirs of Languedoc. The altitude, the diversity of the soil, the exhibition, everything was brought together to elaborate great wines ! Then, few years later, he decided to buy Mas la Chevalière, this beautiful property of character, and its 40 hectares of vines. Ever since, the winery has become known for the quality of its wines./p>

     Terroir

    Terroir

The clay-limestone and sometimes marl soils of Mas la Chevalière are very deep and thanks to this particularity, the roots of the vine can sink on several meters to reach a source of water that they do not find on the surface. This difficulty for the vine to go in deep soils, gives to the wines a lot of freshness !

Pinot noir can blossom outside of Burgundy : there is the proof with this wine from Savoie. The freshness and the altitude of Savoy are great to pinot noir and as a great lover of Savoyard wines, it is for me a great pleasure to make you discover this original wine. The mouth is full of freshness and the tannins are very subtle.

    Sommelier

    The opinion of the sommelier

Located in the heart of the mountains of Montmirail, this vintage refinement honours the great red wines from the southern part of the Rhone Valley. The nose is subtle and generous : a delicious blend of candied fruits and thyme. A Gigondas full of sun, balanced, with this aromatic power found in all the good wines of the region.

    Sommelier

    The opinion of the sommelier

At the nose, remarkable flavours of black and red berries. At the palate, you’ll be charmed by the wine’s density and its elegance. Tannins are silky, with a chocolate taste which is a signature taste of amazing warm vintages. Wines of the vintage 2015 have a very noticeable ageing potential in Bordeaux. This Fronsac can be appreciated right now or in the next two or three years.
