The opinion of the sommelier

« I’m a fan of this Egregore 2004. It’s a 10-years old wine and it comes from an exceptional small lot. This wine was produced from very old Merlot vineyards with a manual picking off such as the famous Château Pape Clément wine. The production is very little: only 2400 bottles are made each year and Mister Magrez was happy to reserve a large part of its 2004 production for the subscribers of My VitiBox! »

Terroir

The Egregore is produced from a small lot situated in the lieu-dit “Guerit”, in Tauriac - small geographical area bearing a traditional name. This cuvée makes only 2400-2600 bottles per year and the majority of vintage 2004 has been reserved for the subscribers of My VitiBox. The winery is close to one of the routes of the Way to St. James.

lecepage Grape Variety

Merlot represents 58% of planted vineyards in the Bordeaux region. Contrary to the bordelaise tradition of blended wines, the Egregore is a mono-varietal wine. This grape variety brings suppleness and fine fruity aromas.

lemillesime Vintage

Egregore 2004 is excellent now and should keep evolving nicely in the next 3 or 4 years. In this region, the year 2004 stands out for its excellent quality/price ratio. Although 2004 wasn’t classified a golden year such as 2005 or 2009, it turns out to be a good vintage.

lerecoltant Winemaker

Our first subscribers start knowing Bernard Magrez. He is a self-made winemaker, producer of exceptional wines and first owner of Grand Crus Classés in Bordeaux. For instance, he owns and makes the well-known Château Pape Clément.
