The opinion of the sommelier

« The cuvee L’Etoile de Bergey has as much potential as its big brother, the Château Haut-Bergey. This Pessac Léognan wine has a nice purple robe, and combines a nice acidity, silky tannins and harmonious wood flavours. I advice you to drink this wine while eating rabbit stew. You can drink this wine now or wait five more years. »

The terroir of the Château Haut-Bergey is spread on 25 hectares of vineyards cultivated on an argilo-siliceous subsoil, mix of sand and clay. We often say that the clay soils produce wines that are solid, strong and alcoholic while the siliceous soils produce fine wines, with subtle aromatic hints. The union of the clay and the silica sand guarantees a terroir of high quality.

lecepage Grape variety

In the Bordeaux area, it is common to combine cabernet sauvignon and merlot. The cabernet sauvignon brings power and body to the wine, while the merlot adds fruits and velvet hints. This wine is full of aromas of blackcurrants, strawberries, black cherries and prunes.

lemillesime Vintage

2010 was a very good year ! The constant sunshine enabled the wine to develop a bright red color, with a gourmet and fruity mouth. This second wine from the Château Haut-Bergey can be drunk young or after a few years in the cellar.

lerecoltant Winemaker

Year after year, Sylviane Garcin Cathiard is building a small empire in the Bordeaux wines. She bought four different Châteaux in fifteen years : Château Branon, Clos l’Eglise Pomerol, Château Barde-Haut, and of course the Château Haut-Bergey.
