The opinion of the sommelier

You do not even need to pour the first glass to experience this wine. Immediatly after opening the bottle, you can already smell the powerful ripened fruits aromas exhaling in the room. On the palate, it’s an ecstasy. You will certainly notice this incredibly soft texture that glides over the tongue. These concentrated and powerful wines are the new signature of the Languedoc region. This is the perfect wine for a Christmas turkey served with cranberry sauce.

In the hills behind the Mediterranean Sea coast, Mas Onésime’s vines are planted on schist based soils. This specific kind of soils allows vines’ roots to go particularly deep in the ground in order to find their water and nutrients. It’s a real perk in such a dry region as Languedoc !

lecepage Grape variety

Cinsault, the variety in minority in this blend, comes from Provence and thrives in warm and dry areas. It’s why it was widely planted in Algeria during the French period. Its main perk is that it develops very smooth fruity aromas even before reaching ripeness. It makes it a perfect addition to a blend so as to add complexity to the wine. It is also great used by itself to elaborate rosé wines.

lemillesime Vintage

With its warm and dry winter and chilly and rainy summer, the 2014 vintage is remembered by winemakers as a reverse vintage. The grapes were already much ripened at the beginning of summer and the high level of humidity scared the winemakers as they feared rot and illness. Fortunately, the strong winds that blew during summer protected the vines from these plagues and allowed to elaborate a great vintage !

lerecoltant A winemaker, a family

Olivier Villaneuva is part of thisfirst generation of winemakers who travelled the world to work in various wine estates around the planet before returning home to take care of the family vineyard. Villaneuva joined his parents at Mas Onésime in 1999 with the goal of bottling himself the wine before bought by the local cooperative. He succeeded in 2011 with a good vintage that quickly won over the critics.
