The opinion of the sommelier

Tasting this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru was a shot of pleasure! The deep ruby colour comes along thick and promising tears. The nose is complex, displaying at the same time fruity aromas and flavours of spices and roasting. On the palate, the wine is rich, the tannins are refined yet very present, and you will definitely appreciate its astonishing length.

Terroir

Located next to the famous hillside of Pavie, in the South of the village of Saint-Émilion, the 6 hectares of Château Puy-Razac benefits from a soil of great quality that it shares with the famous neighbouring Château Pavie. The name of the property is a derived of the name of the locality where stands the castle: "Puits-Razat". Note as well that Catherine Thoilliez claims the choice to make no other wine as this one to focus on it.

lecepage Grape variety

Cabernet Franc is a black grape variety mainly grown in the region of Bordeaux and in the Loire Valley. This grape variety produces supple wines with red berries and spicy flavours. Merlot is nowadays the main grape variety on the vineyard of Bordeaux, and is the signature of great Saint-Émilion wines.

lemillesime Vintage

The quality of the vintage 2015 was greeted just as much on the right bank of Bordeaux. In Saint-Émilion, and Pomerol, the freshness of wines is surprising, considering how warm the vintage was. The levels of tannins are particularly high which brought to the wines a great ageing potential.

lerecoltant A winemaker, a family

By taking over in 1997 her grandfather’s personal vineyard (he used to also be the manager of Chateau Monbousquet) Catherine Thoilliez attempted to increase the wine’s quality by making research using different vine growing techniques to only keep the ones that were giving the best grapes.
