The opinion of the sommelier

This Côte de Nuits-Villages is the perfect wine for a Sunday family lunch around a roasted chicken ! The nose displays refined aromas of rose and strawberry, and on the palate, I am pleasantly surprised by sophisticated woody aromas that will perfectly emphasize the roasted flavours of the chicken’s grilled skin. A deep and complex wine that will make your taste buds dance !

Terroir

Located just below the famous village of Nuits-Saint-Georges, the Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation benefits from marly soils, typical of the Côte d’Or area. These soils are a mix of clay and limestone, an ideal mix that captures the humidity in the air as well as the heat from the sun. This phenomenon helps the pinot noir to fully rippen and reach a high level of concentration.

lecepageGrape variety

Pinot noir is very old ! Experts agree to say that it already existed during the first century of our era. Indeed, this variety witnessed the fights between the Gaulois and the Romans and was among the first variety planted in Burgundy. Nowadays, it is the only black variety grown in the historical heart of Burgundy !

lemillesimeVintage

Although it was expected to be exceptional, the vintage 2014 was rough for winemakers in Burgundy. Indeed, even if the weather was warm and sunny most of the time, a little hail destroyed some of the grapes. Fortunately, the remaining grapes were very concentrated in sugar and organic acids. So the harvest was very good in quality but low in quantity.

lerecoltant A winemaker, a family

The Louis Max winery has an unusual history. It was founded in 1859 by Evgueni Louis Max, the son of a Georgian winemaker who came in France to create his own winery in Nuits-Saint-Georges. The winery has been long known for gathering exceptional winemaking skills: the famous French writer Colette was already mentioning Louis Max in 1929 !
