The opinion of the sommelierThis appellation, stuck between Saint-Emilion and the southwest is a terroir I am fond of because wines there offer the same subtle minerality as in the Libournais’ appellations. I have made astonishing finds there. This château is one of those : very pleasant in the mouth, fruity and perfectly well aged.
TerroirWe are here, on an historic land. Indeed, it was near Castillon that took place the famous battle which ended up the terrible Hundred Years’ War with the defeat of the English troops. In addition to being legendary, this region, where valleys and hillsides follow one other, offer a beautiful diversity of terroirs giving both warm and robust wines.
Grape varietyCabernet Franc is not the main grape variety of Bordeaux’s region. Thanksto its ability to ripen prematurely, it is also located in the North as far as the Loire Valley and brings to Bordeaux’s wines, complexity and a spicy touch.
VintageIn 2014, the summer was quite catastrophic in Bordeaux because of the lack of sunshine and the heavy rainfall. But from the end of August to the end of October, the whole France experienced an exceptional Indian summer punctuated with cool nights. And then, the Cabernet Sauvignon benefited from a slow maturation giving elegant tannins. In conclusion, 2014 is a vintage that can be described as a miracle, literally saved from rain.
