The opinion of the sommelierCreated in 1755 in Cahors, Maison Rigal had developed a unique know-how with the Malbec grape. Vinified in red or rosé, Rigal knows how to express the best of this grape from the South-West of France. This wine “Comte de Tauzac” takes part of the long tradition of Cahors’ wines but with a modern profile of tasting.
TerroirWhen you taste it, focus on the finish’s flavours : there is a saline persistence with smoky aromas. These aromas are the expression of the soil composed of pebbles and gravels. This composition of soil allows the vines to grow deeper roots and it provides minerality and powerful flavours to the wine.
Grape varietyMalbec is the most famous grape variety of this region. It grows really well in the soil of the South-West region : gravels and sand. It gives to this appellation unique and powerful tannins, aromas of plum, tobacco and a great capacity for ageing. In foreign countries, Malbec is known as “Black Wine” because of the intense and dark colour of this grape.
VintageThe vintage was saved thanks to what we called the Indian summer. During June, the blossoming was perfect, however a cold weather strike in July and August which jeopardize the vineyards. Fresh weather and numerous rainy days had slowed the maturation process of the grapes. Fortunately, temperatures finally rose up at the end of August and the grapes finished to ripen well.
