The opinion of the sommelierChâteau de Saint Pey is mainly known for its Saint Emilion Grand Cru, but it also produces in the neighbouring vines a second wine called “S de Saint Pey” which benefits from a very comparable terroir, but at a more reasonable price ! S de Saint Pey is a real bargain that shall be tasted immediately.
TerroirVines are on the same clay soil that makes the worldwide reputation of Saint-Emilion wines. It is a great opportunity to experience the effects that this cold terroir gives to the wines by challenging the grapes to ripen.
Grape varietyChâteau de Saint Pey and S de Saint Pey are both typical Bordeaux blends. Merlot particularly enjoys soils of clay because it ripens more easily than cabernet-sauvignon that needs a lot of care to grow well on this kind of terroirs.
Vintage2016 is a very good vintage in Bordeaux ! The year began rather badly with various diseases that stroke vines. Fortunately, summer was dry and warm and it blew away humidity. Summer allowed the vines to heal and gave them perfectly, healthy and concentrated grapes, when the harvest time came.
